THE WEDDING WITH MYSELF

A man goes to find the truth like a hero, and finally finds a small lie that is not well covered. He called it his marriage. -Nietische

This is a six-color 2019 S/S men's collection. Inspired by Schopenhauer and Nietzsche's pessimistic philosophy.

Unlike before, there are so many creative ways to choose our relationship and life. The artist, personally, agrees with the view that these modern solutions are created to encourage people to be happier and more comfortable. When we release ourselves spiritually, the cages around us are broken somehow. There is no confirmed pattern for one’s whole life, however, love is always important to gain and give. Influenced by pessimistic philosophy, the artist believes there is no better solution. However, love matters, it would be more right when the decision is made out of love, for both ourselves and others, at least worthy.

In this collection, the artist expresses this open issue in artistic language, trying to search and discuss more unstable possibilities with the help of the stable status of “marriage”. By criticizing and inheriting the classic Chinese wedding customs in the Qing Dynasty, she tried using the most traditional way to break the traditions, applying The Wedding With Myself as the display of the collection. Based on this story, with the research of formal occasion costumes in recent decades, she discusses the development of unisexual style garments.

The exploration of embroidery revolves around the theme of "independence". Water-soluble embroidery frees the thread from the fabric, which can be applied to present its beauty independently without other materials. This also reduces the waste, making the whole process more environmentally friendly. The textiles are highly versatile as they are double-sided. The technique can be applied to make accessories, such as necklaces, bouquets and garters. Fabrics can be hollowed out or connected in multiple layers seamlessly. It presents the effect of three-dimensionality, which is functional as well as decorative.
